LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — Republican Steven Mentzer is running for re-election to represent the 97th district of Pennsylvania. Having been elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2012, Mentzer is no stranger to the office.
The Lancaster County native graduated from Manheim Township High School and major in business administration at Elizabethtown College.
He currently lives with his wife and two children in Manheim Township.
The former treasurer of Manheim Township was well involved in the local community and worldwide humanitarian projects before holding public office.
Locally, Mentzer has been involved with organizations such as: the Susquehanna Association for the Blind, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lancaster and the Lancaster County Council of Churches.
Through his involvement at First Presbyterian Church, Mentzer has coordinated several medical donations and other types of outreach to third world countries. He also founded and served as President of the Central American Relief Efforts.
In the 2023-24 House session, Mentzer was selected as the Republican Chairman of Aging and Older Adult Services Committee. He has served on that committee since 2013 in different capacities.
In the 2021-22 session, he was assigned to the Insurance, Tourism and Recreational Development, and Professional Licensure Committees. He has served in these and other committees in his time as representative.
As the incumbent, Mentzer enters the 2024 Republican race unopposed. The primary election will be on April 23, 2024.
The 97th district covers areas to the south, west, and east of Lancaster City, including Eden, New Danville, Lampeter, Oregon, Talmage, Conestoga, Creswell and Youngstown.
