Franklin County officials remove signage directing voters to take off campaign-branded gear

According to the Pa. Department of State, voters can wear campaign and political gear to the polls so long as they don't actively engage in electioneering.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. — Franklin County officials say that all signage that directed voters to remove campaign-branded clothing has been removed.

According to Sheena Baker, the communications coordinator with Franklin County, the Franklin County Board of Election advised judges of elections to remove any signage at county polls that directed voters to remove their campaign-branded clothing and similar items while voting.

Additionally, Baker stated that the Board of Elections advised judges not to direct voters to remove such items.

The move was made based on the advice from Franklin County attorneys, who reportedly had concerns for voter's freedom of speech rights.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, voters can wear campaign gear and political paraphernalia to the polls so long as they don't actively engage in electioneering, which is defined as directly soliciting votes for candidates or intimidating fellow voters.
