Kamala Harris campaigns with Liz Cheney, attempting to win over independent, Republican voters

The Vice President appeared with the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney in Chester County.

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. — Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned in Chester County on Monday with former Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) in an attempt to win over independents and Republicans leaning away from former President Donald Trump.

Harris and Cheney sat for a moderated conversation at the People's Light Theatre in Malvern in front of a small group of supporters.

Harris attempted to reach out to Republicans who may be on the fence about Trump by saying that she will be a president for all, regardless of party.

“It is not about the individual," Harris said. "It is not about what is in their personal interest. It is about what is for and in the spirit of the public good.”

One Republican who has endorsed Harris is Cheney herself, who is also the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney.

Cheney said she endorsed Vice President Harris because of her adherence to her conservative principles.

“I’m a conservative, and I know that the most conservative of all conservative principles is being faithful to the Constitution," Cheney said, referring to Trump's actions on January 6, 2021. "You have to choose in this race between someone who has been faithful to the constitution and who will be faithful, and Donald Trump."

Harris responded to questions from the audience about child and elder care, along with maternal care, and said her presidency will look to move past the division she says has been caused by Trump’s rhetoric.

“It is not productive of us to be a nation of people who are pointing fingers at one another," Harris said. "Who don’t understand that the vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us.”

Trump responded to Harris and Cheney's planned events on Monday in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan by attacking Cheney for her father's support for the United States' invasion of Iraq in 2003.

"Liz Cheney, who, like her father, the man that pushed Bush to ridiculously go to war in the Middle East, also wants to go to war with every Muslim country known to mankind," Trump's social media post read in part. "If Kamala gets four more years, the Middle East will spend the next four decades going up in flames, and your kids will be going off to war, maybe even a Third World War, something that will never happen with President Donald J. Trump in charge. For our country’s sake, and for your kids, Vote Trump for PEACE!"
