Monday is the last day to register to vote in Pennsylvania for upcoming election

Pennsylvanians can still register in-person or online on Monday.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Monday, Oct 23 is the last chance to register to vote for the municipal election in Pennsylvania.

Even with the deadline closing in, election officials said there is still time to register both online and in-person.

But, there are a couple of requirements.

First, voters must be a U.S. citizen for at least one month before the election. They need to be at least 18-years-old at the time they cast their ballot. Voters must also be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district they want to vote in for at least 30 days.

Election officials said voters can register online or in-person at their county voter registration office. They said to avoid registering to vote by mail because forms may not be processed in time.

While this is an odd year municipal election, election experts still stressed it's still important. They said if Pennsylvanians are thinking of sitting this one out, they should reconsider.

"These are the elections where the people who we're voting for are actually the closest to us," said Sarah Niebler, professor of political science at Dickinson College. "They're are mayors, borough council members, our school board directors, our county commissioners, and these folks make policy that really do effect citizens every day lives."

Paper voter registration forms must be received in county voter registration offices by close of business on Monday. If Pennsylvanians are looking to vote by absentee or mail-in ballot, they still have until October 31 by 5 p.m. to apply.

Monday is a hard deadline and there is no leniency for late submissions.
