LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Cutting through the Mid Valley region in Lackawanna County is Main Street, where political division is visually apparent. Even those sharing walls divide their lawns to display their allegiances.
On the eve of Election Day, some Main Street residents tell Newswatch 16 why they decided to depict their political decisions.
"I'm a Trump supporter, I'm a Republican supporter actually, this year it's turning out, and I just wanted to get the word out that you know please go out and vote," said Michele Durick from Dickson City.
"I think Harris, she's got a lot of experience, and she's a very bright woman, and what she doesn't know she will bring in Republicans, and she will bring in different voices," said Diana Enrico from Peckville.
For people like Troy Morgan with family on main street, the division isn't limited to just the front yard, it comes through the front door.
"My mother-in-law is a hardcore Democrat, I'm more lenient to Republican, I wouldn't say I'm a diehard, but I do more lean towards Republican, so inside the home, we just don't talk politics," said Troy Morgan from Scott Township.
But despite the divisions on and off the street, those with ties to Main Street can't wait for election season to be over.
"I'm really happy because so many people aren't talking to another, it’s ridiculous,” said Durick. “Having an adult conversation has taken a side route."
"I am nervous about the election, I just have to worry about that Kamala is going to get in there," said Enrico.
“We need change, I mean inflation, the cost of things. I got four kids at home, so I want to see change, and if it goes the other way, I just want to see change in a positive direction," said Morgan.
