PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Pennsylvania is coming into focus as the nation's premier swing state in the 2024 elections.
On Wednesday, the Commonwealth will see both the Republican and Democratic parties make stops across the state, campaigning for votes in November's election.
Vice Presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz is making a series of stops across the state, including a stop in Lancaster.
As the Harris-Walz campaign continues to face criticism for its lack of interviews and media appearances, Gov. Walz took no questions from the press during his time in Lancaster County.
Gov. Walz touched down at the Lancaster Airport late Wednesday morning.
By afternoon, he was at a volunteer appreciation event at the Lancaster County Democratic Committee headquarters in downtown Lancaster.
“It’s not hyperbole to say this election could very well hinge on this county, on this field office here, and the folks that we get out," Gov. Walz said to the room of about 50 campaign volunteers.
He spoke to them for six or seven minutes. During that time, media outlets were not allowed to ask questions or place microphones near the Democratic VP nominee.
Gov. Walz told supporters it's not just about winning an election, but putting policies in place which improve people's lives.
“Whether that’s access to reproductive healthcare, whether that’s good public schools, or building infrastructure or creating jobs that people a living wage so they can live their lives with dignity," he said.
Gov. Walz spoke with supporters by phone and took photos with volunteers.
Lynn McCleary is a Mount Joy resident who is running for state representative in the 98th district. She says she's excited to back the Harris-Walz ticket.
“We went to Philadelphia for the original rally, it felt like the whole building was vibrating with joy and hope and inspiration," she said.
When FOX43 asked her which policies of the administration she supports, McCleary responded, "Women’s rights to reproductive health are at the top of our list, other things are healthcare, racial justice, all kinds of things…schools, public education is important to me as well.”
Gov. Walz also took time to address Wednesday's deadly shooting at a Georgia school. He called the shooting "tragic" and said more work needs to be done to prevent these incidents from happening in the future.
He will continue on his trek for a stop in Pittsburgh before making his way to Erie on Thursday, where Walz will speak at a campaign rally.
Former President Donald Trump will be in Harrisburg on Wednesday for a town hall with FOX News Channel's Sean Hannity. The event will be hosted at the New Holland Arena from 9-10 p.m.
The City of Harrisburg says there will be major traffic delays associated with Trump's visit, including the closures of the following roads and intersections beginning in the midafternoon:
- Maclay Street between Cameron & 7th Streets
- Arsenal Blvd at Cameron Street
- Cameron Street between Maclay/Arsenal & Interstate 81
- Industrial Road at HACC Drive
Less than a week remains until the first presidential debate.
FOX43 will have team coverage of these campaign stops throughout the day and evening.
This is a developing story. FOX43 will provide updates as they become available.
