HARRISBURG, Pa. — Some significant seats are up for grabs in the 2024 elections and the race results could sway the balance of power in both the state and the federal government.
Six Democratic candidates are racing for the right to challenge embattled Republican Congressman Scott Perry in this year's general election.
Former WITF executive Blake Lynch and longtime WGAL anchor Janelle Stelson will take on Harrisburg City Councilwoman Shamaine Daniels, Carlisle School Board member and Veteran Rick Coplen, retired Marine Mike O'Brien and businessman John Broadhurst.
Races are also taking shape in Harrisburg. Retiring Senator John DiSanto's seat will be up for grabs.
Democratic State Representative Patty Kim is looking to change chambers, while Harrisburg pastor and activist Alvin Taylor will challenge her in the Democratic Primary.
On the Republican side, Dauphin County Treasurer Nick DiFrancesco will take on Ken Stambaugh of Lower Paxton Township.
Since Kim is running for Senate, another race has opened up to take her seat in the state house.
Five Democrats, former house staffer Tina Nixon, Camp Hill Borough Councilwoman Mercedes Evans, former House Democratic Campaign Committee member Nathan Davidson, Lemoyne Borough Councilmen Jesse Monoski and Navy Veteran Laura Harding are vying for the seat.
Meanwhile, incumbent Republican Representative Thomas Mehaffie will face former U.S. House and Senate candidate Bobby Jeffries in another primary battle.
The next significant date for these candidates comes on March 7, the last day to circulate and file nomination petitions in the state.
