David McCormick, a Gulf War veteran and former hedge fund CEO, is running to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate in this year's Republican primary.

The Pennsylvania businessman is seeking to challenge incumbent Democratic senator Robert Casey Jr. in November.

According to Ballotpedia, McCormick received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his Ph.D. in international affairs from Princeton University. His professional experience includes working as the CEO of Bridgewater Associates, an investment management firm, and under secretary in both the Department of Commerce and Department of the Treasury.

He served in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division during the Persian Gulf War in 1991, receiving a Bronze Star for his service before retiring as a captain, according to his campaign website.

Born in Washington and raised in the Pittsburgh area, the 58-year-old McCormick attended high school at Bloomsburg while his father, James, served as president of Bloomsburg University and chancellor of the State System of Higher Education. His mother, Maryan, was a professor at Bloomsburg.

After his time in the Army, McCormick earned his Ph.D. at Princeton University before returning to Pittsburgh to start his business career.

In 2005, McCormick served as Under Secretary of the Treasury and Deputy National Security Advisor in the George W. Bush administration before returning to the private sector.

This is McCormick's second attempt to run for U.S. Senate. He lost to Mehmet Oz in the 2022 Republican primary; Oz went on to be defeated by Democrat John Fetterman in the general election that November.
