PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Tuesday marks one week until the Pennsylvania primary elections.
It is also the last day to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on April 16.
On April 23, Pennsylvanians will vote for who they want to represent their party in November's 2024 general election.
The big ticket items include the races for president, U.S. House and Senate. Plus, there’s several important statewide elections, including the attorney general and State House and Senate.
In this primary, there are some candidates who are running unopposed.
For the presidential race, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are the presumptive nominees for their parties.
President Biden has enough delegates to receive the democratic nomination but U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota will still appear on the ballot even though he suspended his campaign back on March 6.
Former President Donald Trump has enough delegates to receive the Republican nomination but will still appear on the ballot with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who also dropped out of the race.
In the U.S. Senate race, Democratic incumbent Bob Casey will run unopposed in the primary. He will face Republican Dave McCormick in the general election.
One of the most packed races is for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District. Six Democrats will be vying for the nomination to take on Republican U.S. Representative Scott Perry.
That includes Mike O'Brien, a retired marine; Janelle Stelson, a former anchor at WGAL; Blake Lynch, a former executive at WITF; Shamaine Daniels, a Harrisburg city councilwoman; Rick Coplen, an army veteran and Carlisle School Board member; and John Broadhurst, a businessman.
There’s also the state attorney general race. Current Attorney General Michelle Henry, who was appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro after he won the governor's race, will not run to keep her role.
Democrats Keir Bradford-Grey, Eugene Depasquale, Joe Khan, Jared Solomon and Jack Stollsteimer are all vying for the party’s nomination.
Meanwhile, Dave Sunday and Craig Williams are competing on the Republican side.
For the State Treasurer race, Republican incumbent Stacy Garrity is running unopposed in her party’s primary, while Ryan Bizzarro and Erin McClelland compete for a spot on the Democratic ticket.
