HARRISBURG, Pa. — Editor's note: The above video is from Jan. 30.
Now that we've cleared the first month of 2024, thoughts are starting to turn to Pennsylvania's fast-approaching primary election.
“As part of Governor Shapiro’s commitment to strengthening our democracy and keeping our elections safe and secure, we are kicking off our voter education initiative a month early this year to remind Pennsylvania voters about key dates and deadlines for the April 23 Primary Election,” Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said. “Registered voters who want to make their voice heard deserve early, clear, nonpartisan information about how they can cast their ballot, and that is exactly what the Department of State is providing.”
The election will be held on April 23, with polls open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Here are key dates and deadlines, as well as extra resources for voters.
Dates:
- April 8: Last day to register to vote in the primary.
- April 16: Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot.
- April 23: Primary election day
- Polls are open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- County elections offices must receive completed mail ballots by 8 p.m.
Pennsylvanians can also access the voter education toolkit to see ready-made educational graphics with election facts that are available to be shared online. These resources are available in English, Spanish and Chinese.
Mail-in ballots were also redesigned for this year to make them more uniform across the Keystone State's 67 counties.
“The Shapiro Administration designed mail ballot instructions and materials to be clearer and easier for Pennsylvania voters to understand,” Schmidt said. “The redesigned envelopes and instruction sheet have revised language to better guide voters through properly filling out, packing, and returning their mail ballot.”
