Voter registration ends today, here are the latest numbers

Some county election offices were at capacity on Monday as Pennsylvanians registered to vote at the last minute.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — It was all hands on deck at York County’s Office of Elections and Voter Registration in Springettsbury Township.

Dozens walked through the doors on the last day to register to vote.

“For me, it was pretty easy because I already had my paper filled out and everything. So, I just had to turn it in to somebody, a worker. But everybody else has to wait in a really long line,” said resident Morgan Faiola.

Faiola was already registered to vote but had to amend her information in person after getting married.

For John and Susan Glynn, Monday was the perfect time to drop off their mail-in ballots.

“We’re really excited about the turnout here. Surprised, but very happy because it’s packed with a lot of people. So, everybody seems to understand the importance of this year’s election,” John said.

The Glynn’s are among more than 300,000 registered voters in York County.

“We just did it online, or mail-in, because we just wanted to have the convenience of having it to our home and make sure we voted in all the local elections as well,” Susan said.

Pennsylvania is 2,000 registrations shy of surpassing the number of registered voters in the 2020 general election, according to the most recent data from the Department of State.

The total number of registered voters could surpass the 2020 number of more than 9,090,962.

The latest data shows Philadelphia, Allegheny, and Montgomery County have the most registered voters.

While Monday was the last day to register to vote in person or online, it wasn’t the end of the election process.

“October 29 is the last day to request a mail-in ballot, if folks are still out there and want to vote in that manner, we encourage them to get their request in early because one week before an election is not a lot of time to process an application, get it out in the mail, and get it back,” said Julie Wheeler, York County President Commissioner.

Once registered to vote, consider building a plan of whether to vote by mail or in person.

If voting in person, consider finding a polling place ahead of time and how to get there on November 5th.
