Kamala Harris event scheduled on Ellipse, permit shows

The event was originally reported to be on the National Mall but was later moved to Ellipse, a source tells WUSA9.

WASHINGTON — Kamala Harris is planning an event in the District just one week before the election, WUSA9 has learned.

According to a permit filed Friday with the National Park Service, the event was planned to be on the National Mall on Tuesday, with as many as 7,500 attendees expected. The permit also plans for 250 staff, organizers and volunteers.

The venue was later changed to Ellipse. A source tells WUSA9 that the venue change was approved but the permit has not yet been issued. No other details have been released.

Ellipse is the same location where the former President and current Republican nominee Donald Trump spoke to crowds on Jan. 6, 2021, as Congress was convening to certify President Joe Biden's victory that past November. Those crowds then became a mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol as part of a deadly riot.

An event website appeared for the campaign rally Wednesday night. For more information, click here.
