Acting Secretary of State provides update on General Election in Pa.

Acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman provided an update on today's General Election at a press conference.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — Acting Secretary of State Leigh Chapman provided an update on today's General Election at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to Chapman, 67 counties hosted 9,218 polling places. For this election, more than 1.4 million Pennsylvanians requested mail-in and absentee ballots, and approximately 83% of those ballots were voted and returned to ballots, between both Democrats and Republicans.

"Election officials in all 67 counties are well aware that the eyes of the nation are on the Keystone State tonight and they are counting as quickly as they can," said Chapman. "But they are also prioritizing accuracy over speed, as they should."

The acting secretary of state asked for patience while the ballots are counted and stated that official results will not be available for a few days.

Chapman discussed the paper shortage in Luzerne County, which is why the county's polling locations are open until 10 p.m., following a judge's ruling.

She also addressed "typical Election Day incidents" in counties, such as power outages and a gas leak, which were quickly handled.

"In a very dynamic environment, Pennsylvania once again executed a free, fair and secure election," said Chapman.
