In first Pa. visit since shooting, Trump to hold Harrisburg rally on July 31

Former president Donald Trump will speak at the Farm Show Complex on Wednesday night.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Update, 3:45 p.m.: Trooper Megan Frazer, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police, said all parking lots at the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex are full ahead of former president Donald Trump's visit to the midstate.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, and to expect "major traffic delays" in the area around the complex.

Former president Donald Trump will visit Harrisburg on Wednesday for his first campaign rally since the attempt on his life in Butler County on July 13.

The Republican nominee for president will address supporters inside New Holland Arena at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. He had previously spoken at the arena in February as part of the Great American Outdoor Show.

Local Republican leaders say Trump's return to Pennsylvania is significant, and underscores the importance of the Commonwealth in November.

"I think the American people will see a leader who is not going to be intimidated under the most extreme of circumstances, but also the importance of Pennsylvania to this race and to the country," said 10th District Congressman Scott Perry (R-York). "And I think it sends both those messages very clearly."

The Harris campaign has also been active in Pennsylvania over the past week. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro headlined a rally in Philadelphia on Monday with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The governor touted the vice president’s experience as a prosecutor and vice president and criticized Trump for attacking Americans' freedom to make their own choices.

"It is not freedom to tell people they can go to work but they can't join a union, that's not freedom," Shapiro said, "It is not freedom to tell women what they're allowed to do with their bodies, that's not freedom."

Vice President Harris' shortlist for her vice presidential nominee reportedly includes Governor Shapiro. However, Perry says the governor should focus on his job in his current office.

"He's always had one thing in mind the whole time I've known him, and that's to be President of the United States," Perry said. "He was recently elected governor, and I think he should be focused on doing great things for Pennsylvania."

Trump is expected to speak at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30 in New Holland Arena.

Some of his supporters camped out overnight in a bid to get a prime spot at the rally.
