Gov. Tim Walz rallies at York Fairgrounds one day after VP debate

The Minnesota governor spoke for 32 minutes inside UPMC Arena at the fairgrounds.

YORK, Pa. — Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz addressed supporters in York at a rally inside the York Fairgrounds on Wednesday, one day after he debated with Republican counterpart, Ohio Senator JD Vance.

The Minnesota governor spoke for 32 minutes inside UPMC Arena at the fairgrounds and accused his counterpart of misrepresenting former president Donald Trump’s record in office.

"You can't rewrite history," Walz said. "And trying to mislead us about Donald's Trump record, that's gaslighting."

Governor Walz focused on Vance’s lack of an answer to a question at the debate on whether he believes former President Donald Trump legitimately lost the 2020 election.

"In that 88th minute last night, with that damning non-answer, Senator Vance made it clear he will always make a different choice than Mike Pence made," Walz said. "And as I said then, and I will say now, that should be disqualifying if you're asking to be the vice president United States."

The visit marked Walz’s second to south-central Pennsylvania and the first formal rally either he or his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, has held in the area.

Walz made the case for how a Harris administration would benefit the Commonwealth.

"Here in Pennsylvania, you felt the pain of the Trump years that killed 275,000 jobs," Walz said. "Under Vice President Harris, Pennsylvania has created more than half a million jobs during this time."

Harris had previously been scheduled to appear in the area on Wednesday but postponed the trip to visit the areas impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Walz made a direct appeal to Republican voters in a county that voted for Donald Trump by a near 25% margin in 2020.

"The Republican Party has added much to this country," Walz said. "We need them back again, because that Republican Party used to talk about freedom and fair economy, and they meant it. Donald Trump's people, their definition of freedom is the freedom to invade your doctor's office."

Walz was flanked by Senator John Fetterman, who had previously shown strong support to President Joe Biden when he experienced pressure from party leaders to drop out of the race.

The Trump campaign responded to Walz's speech and performance at Tuesday's debate by attacking his and Harris' positions along with Harris' record as Vice President.

"Tim Walz humiliated himself by offering the same failed, weak, radical leftism that has failed us — unable to answer the most basic question: Why hasn't Kamala done any of what she's proposing during her 3.5 years in the White House?" a campaign statement read.
