WASHINGTON — Sean Duffy may be a familiar name from politics or Fox News, but there’s so much more to this Wisconsin native. From his early days as a star on MTV reality shows to winning speed-climbing championships and a political career that culminated in being named secretary of transportation by Donald Trump in 2024, Duffy’s journey is diverse. Here are 9 fascinating facts about the man who seems to have done it all.

1. Reality TV Star Turned Politician

Before hitting the campaign trail, Sean Duffy hit the reality TV circuit. He appeared on "The Real World: Boston" in 1997, then competed on "Road Rules: All Stars" in 1998, where he met his future wife, Rachel Campos. They even made an appearance together in "Real World Awards Bash" in 2008.

2. Log Rolling & Speed-Climbing Champ

Duffy didn’t just grow up in Hayward, Wisconsin — he grew up climbing poles and rolling logs. By age five, he was log rolling, and by 13, he was competing in speed climbing, sprinting up 60- and 90-foot poles. He even holds two speed-climbing titles. 

3. Badger State Games MVP

In 2004, Duffy was named the Badger State Games Honorary Athlete for the Winter Games. He also competed in ESPN's Great Outdoor Games as both an athlete and a commentator. 

4. He Comes From A Very Large Family 

Sean is the 10th of 11 children. He and Rachel have nine children of their own.

5. Law Degree

While many may know him for his TV or political career, Duffy also holds a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. He served as district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin, starting in 2002.

6. Political Upset Extraordinaire

In 2010, Duffy ran for Congress in Wisconsin’s 7th District and pulled off an upset victory after 15-term Democratic incumbent Dave Obey retired. 

7. Fox News and Fox Business Regular

Duffy now shares his insights on national politics as a co-host of "The Bottom Line" on Fox Business alongside Dagen McDowell. He’s also a contributor on Fox News.
