York County announces 'I Voted' sticker contest to engage future voters

The contest is a joint effort between the county and the Cultural Alliance of York County.

YORK, Pa. — York County is getting its future voters involved in this year's election through the “I Voted” sticker contest.

“We look at it as a way to engage what will be future voters in the election process early so they can learn why it's important to vote," said Julie Wheeler, president commissioner of the York County Board of Commissioners.

K-12 students who live throughout the county have the chance to design this year’s “I Voted” sticker, which is a prominent symbol of Election Day.

“It’s something that says, ‘I voted, I took my duty as an American citizen seriously’ and we just thought there’s so much creativity out there with our youngsters this would be a great opportunity for them to display that creativity for all our voters to see," explained Wheeler.

Entries will be accepted from 12 p.m. on February 6, 2024, through 12 p.m. on April 30, 2024.

“As always, the arts can always add such a great new dimension to a topic, a conversation, and sometimes to things we don’t always all agree on," added Kelley Gibson, president of the Cultural Alliance of York County.

The contest will have three winners, one from each age group—elementary, middle, and high school.

They’ll be selected by a panel of local educators and artists and be announced later this summer at the June 21 "Make Music Day" celebration taking place before the York Revolution home game against the Lancaster Barnstormers at WellSpan Park in York.

“We’ll take their designs and they’ll be printed on stickers that will be used in the general election this year and the primary election next year," explained Wheeler.

Winners will receive gift certificates from local businesses, including four tickets to a York Revolution home game.

“[It's] a great way to recognize our younger artists as something so important that every voter will get it and be able to walk around and wear their art," said Gibson.

Contest guidelines and submission forms can be found online or in person at the Grotto Community Co-Working space located at 2 West Market Street, 2nd floor in York.

Designs can be dropped off in person at the Grotto Community Co-Working space between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can also be mailed by April 30 to the Cultural Alliance of York County, 2536 Eastern Blvd PMB 402, York, PA 17402.
