MUHLENBERG, Pa. — A Reading man has been arrested and charged with the death of a Berks County ex-NFL player in 2022.
According to the Muhlenberg Township Police Department, officers responded in the early morning hours of Oct. 16, 2022, for a reported shooting. The victim had arrived at a nearby hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.
Muhlenberg Township officers responded to the scene of the reported shooting and identified evidence alongside the Berks County Forensics Unit.
Officers learned the victim, identified as Antonio Dennard, 32, from Berks County, had succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. He had played professional football with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, according to CBS Sports.
A suspect was identified as Jose Daniel Pizarro, 24, from Reading. On March 5, 2024, he was arrested inside a Brooklyn, New York apartment building by members of the United States Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and members of the New York City Police Department.
Extradition proceedings have begun to bring Pizarro back to Pennsylvania to face homicide charges.
