Chocolate stores getting ready for Valentine's Day

Candy stores are getting ready for one of the busiest holidays of the year.

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. — From heart-shaped boxes of candy to chocolate bouquets, there is something for just about everyone's special someone inside Gertrude Hawk Chocolates at the Pocono Premium Outlets near Tannersville. The store is ready for Valentine's Day.

"This is a different holiday than all the other holidays. It is an intense holiday. We change the whole store around; we get extra refrigerators and extra melting pots. We have quite a bit of staff on. There are people at the register. There are people out on the floor, so you got a big staff," said the store's manager Cynthia Anderton.

Anderton says most of the chocolates are made and packaged at factory headquarters in Dunmore. But a good portion of items are made in-store, too, and employees have already started Valentine's Day orders.

"We're dipping the apples, the Rice Crispy treats, the marshmallows, the pretzels. All the hand-dipped items are getting dipped ahead of time."

There are plenty of options in the store for quick and easy gifts for your sweetheart, but Anderton says you should order ahead if you are looking for a specialty item like chocolate-covered strawberries.

"When you preorder up until February 10, you get the 10 percent off. So you can get any of the gift boxes that way."

If you're still in need of a sweet treat for your valentine, the store is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
