READING, Pa. — Two teenaged suspects have been charged in connection to a deadly shooting in Reading on July 10, city officials said Friday in a press release.
Luis Rios, 18, and Jasir Escoto, 16, are accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old Rafael Tinco-Villagomez in City Park.
Tinco-Villagomez's body was found in the park with gunshot wounds to his back at about 9:30 p.m. on July 10, police said.
The investigation of his death determined he attended a gathering at the park that had been advertised on social media, according to police. The social media post claimed a quantity of marijuana had been hidden somewhere in the park.
According to witnesses, police said, Tinco-Villagomez located the hidden marijuana. Rios and Escoto were allegedly seen chasing him before shooting him in the back.
Both suspects are charged with second- and third-degree murder, robbery, firearms violations and criminal conspiracy, authorities said.
The investigation is still ongoing, police said. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Reading Police at (610) 655-6116 or Crime Alert Berks at (877) 373-9913.
