INDIANAPOLIS — A unique, sports-themed apartment complex on the near northwest side of Indianapolis is continuing to spark buzz and conversation on social media, attracting nationwide attention for its cool layout and innovative design.
A post from one manager at Kenji Capital — a company that renovates apartment buildings — deemed Stadium Lofts “one of the most unique residential conversions he’s seen” and got picked up by networks like SportsCenter and 24/7 Sports.
Stadium Lofts apartments on the 16Tech campus used to be Bush Stadium, and retained the baseball field on the inside of the structure when it was renovated more than a decade ago. Constructed in 1931 as Perry Stadium, it was renamed Victory Field in 1942 as a signal of patriotism during World War II.
It was renamed Bush Stadium in 1967 and hosted baseball during the Pan Am Games in 1987. The ballpark stopped hosting the Indianapolis Indians in 1996.
It was used as the 16th Street Speedway racecourse, then used to store cars for the Cars for Clunkers Program. A $24 million investment by CORE Redevelopment, a company behind several other apartment renovations in Indianapolis, saw the ballpark transformed into Stadium Lofts in 2013.
This storied piece of Indy history prompted widespread intrigue on the internet. Photos of the baseball diamond inside the apartment circulated fast on X, formerly called Twitter, and got picked up by SportsCenter and 247 Sports.
Amenities at the apartment include two on-site fitness centers, free fitness classes, access to the White River cultural trail, gated parking, outdoor grilling and lounge areas, and of course – a baseball field. Units run anywhere from $1,264 to $1,600.
The dirt portion of the infield is now paved with stamped red concrete.
Much of the exterior façade was preserved when the lofts went up in 2013, according to the apartment. Historic features, like the owner's suite and ticket booth, were also incorporated into the apartments.
But the apartments are not the only repurposed spaces in Indianapolis. Bottleworks Hotel, which was once a Coca-Cola manufacturing plant and an old Ford manufacturing plant on the east side, is now a luxury apartment complex.
More social users popped in, applauding the apartment’s innovation. “They turned an old baseball stadium into apartments. Your daily reminder to think and act bigger,” one user wrote.
