The Nittany Lions (7-1) visit Taulia Tagovailoa and the Terrapins at College Park Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on FOX43.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Penn State returns to action Saturday afternoon with a Big Ten clash at Maryland.

The No. 9 Nittany Lions visit the Terrapins at 3:30 p.m. in College Park. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. on FOX43.

Here's what you need to know about the game.

SERIES HISTORY: Penn State and Maryland will meet for the 47th time on Saturday in a rivalry that goes all the way back to 1917. The Lions hold a commanding 42-3-1 advantage in the series, including a 30-0 win last season in Happy Valley.

Maryland's only wins in the series came in 2020 (35-19), 2014 (20-19) and 1961 (21-17). The Terps battled Penn State to a 13-13 tie in 1989, snapping the Lions' streak of 24 straight victories.

ABOUT PENN STATE: The Nittany Lions rebounded from their 20-12 loss at Ohio State last week with a 33-24 victory over Indiana. Quarterback Drew Allar threw his first interception of the season, but came up with a clutch 57-yard TD strike to Keandre Lambert-Smith with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter to give Penn State the lead for good. The Lions also got a strip-sack safety on the Hoosiers' final possession and ran out the clock from there.

Allar finished with 210 passing yards and three touchdowns for the Lions. He also hit tight ends Khalil Dinkins and Theo Johnson with touchdown tosses against Indiana.

Penn State's 10 receiving touchdowns by tight ends are the most among FBS teams. Tyler Warren paces the group with five touchdowns, good for third among FBS tight ends, while Johnson has three and Dinkins owns two this season. Penn State and Appalachian State are the only FBS teams with two tight ends with three or more touchdown receptions this year.

In addition to their fourth-quarter safety, the Nittany Lions forced two takeaways in the Indiana game. Kevin Winston Jr. recovered a muffed punt in the first quarter and Jaylen Reed picked off a pass in the second quarter. Since the start of the 2022 season, Penn State has forced 42 turnovers (22 interceptions, 20 fumbles), ranking sixth in the FBS.

Penn State improved to 11-0, since the start of the 2022 season, when forcing multiple takeaways in a game.

ABOUT MARYLAND: The Terps fell 33-27 at Northwestern last Saturday, dropping to 5-3 this season. Taulia Tagovailoa, younger brother of Dolphins QB and former Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa, threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns for Maryland, while Jeshaun Jones hauled in nine catches for 78 yards and a score. The Maryland defense totaled eight tackles for loss and five sacks, while the offense generated 391 total yards.

Coach Michael Locksley is in his fifth full season on the Terrapins' sideline. He has a 26-31 record at Maryland.

The Terrapins own conference wins over Michigan State (31-9) and Indiana (44-17).

On offense, Maryland ranks third in the Big Ten in scoring (32.6 ppg), third in total offense (418.4 ypg), second in passing offense (280.5) and eighth in rushing offense (137.9). Tagovailoa paces the Big Ten in passing yards (2,200), passing yards per game (275.0), passing touchdowns (19) and completions per game (23.6).

Jones holds fifth in the conference in receiving yards (496) and receptions per game (4.5) and sixth in receiving yards per game (62.0).

On defense, the Terrapins rank eighth in scoring defense (20.4), eighth in total defense (340.5), 12th in passing defense (231.2) and fifth in rushing defense (109.2).
