STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State opened up their 2024 home slate with a visit from Bowling Green. It wasn't easy for the Nittany lions. The defense started off slow after giving up the first points of the game. However, they responded with a 5-yard touchdown run from Quarterback Drew Allar.
The Falcons would keep it close in the first half with a field goal that gave them the 10-7 lead. Penn State went down as much as 17-7 in the second quarter and went into the halftime break down 24-20.
The second half was a different story with the Nittany Lions only giving up three points. Sophomore linebacker Tony Rojas and Junior Safety Zakee Wheatly both had interceptions to preserve the Nittany Lions lead. Running back Nick Singleton broke loose on a 41- yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the game away and close out the 34-27 victory.
Head Coach James Franklin was complimentary of the Falcons effort.
"Credit to Bowling Green they were not scared of the moment and came to play," said Franklin. "We got to correct some things but it's much better to correct them after a win."
Penn State Edge Rusher Abdul Carter echoed coaches statement as well.
"We weren't really doing the things we needed to do in the first half," said Carter. "The second half we did a lot better wrapping up and tackling and just locked in and got it together."
The Nittany Lions will enjoy a bye next week before welcoming in Kent State on the 21st.
