STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The Penn State Nittany Lions returned to Beaver Stadium after their by-week. Welcoming in the Minute Men of Umass. It wasn't the offense or defense that made the first splash play of the game. It came from Special Teams as Daequan Hardy returned a punt 61 yards for the opening touchdown of the game. From there it sparked Penn State in the second quarter as Drew Allar made it 14-0 with a one-yard TD run.
The Nittany Lions does it;s job as well dominating the line of scrimmage and being sticky in coverage. Hardy would add another punt return TD to bring his total to two and breaking the school records for return TD's it's just another element Penn State can add to their game.
"We were looking to try and create some big plays in the return game and we wanted to get Daequan Hard some opportunities," said Head Coach James Franklin "Obviously he showed tonight he could be special and he broke the school record for not only a game but a season."
Penn State comes out with a 63-0 shutout win over Umass just the kind of win you want to see after the bye week and now all the focus is squarely on Ohio State.
"We are going to have the same mentality trying to get better and go 1-0 on the week," said Beau Pribula "Soon as tomorrow hits it's grind time."
The Nittany Lions have not beaten Ohio State since the 2016 kickoff is set for noon.
