Penn State's 'White Out' game set for Nov. 9 against Washington

The game will be the Huskies' first-ever visit to Happy Valley and the first time the two teams have faced off as members of the expanded Big Ten Conference.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — On Monday, the Penn State athletic department announced the date and opponent for the football team's yearly White Out and other themed home games.

The White Out Game will be held on November 9, when the Nittany Lions host their newly arrived Big Ten Conference foe Washington. It will be the first-ever visit to Happy Valley for the Huskies, who join the expanded 18-team conference with a handful of other former Pac-10 schools this season.

A kickoff time has not yet been announced; Penn State prefers a prime-time slot for its White Out game, but past games have been played in the afternoon.

Other themed home games of note:

  • The Nittany Lions' Nov. 2 date with Ohio State will be a Helmet Stripe game, a newly established theme that is something of a mini-White Out.
  • The Stripe Out Game is set for Oct. 5 against UCLA.
  • Penn State's Homecoming/Generations of Greatness Uniform Game will be Sept. 28 against Illinois. During the game, the 30th anniversary of the 1994 Big Ten and Rose Bowl championship team will be honored. Powered by Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter and Bobby Engram, the Lions went 12-0 that year and, somewhat controversially, finished No. 2 in the Associated Press Poll behind Nebraska.
  • THON game — noon on Sept. 7 against Bowling Green
  • Military Appreciation — Sept. 21 against Kent State
  • Senior Day — Nov. 30 against Maryland

Penn State has a 9-6 record in full-stadium White Out games, a tradition that dates back to 2007 (a 31-10 win over Notre Dame). The Lions have won four straight and six of their last seven White Out games.
