STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — The 7th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions are hitting the meat of their Big Ten schedule with a perfect record still in tact. Without ever trailing in Saturday's matchup against UCLA, the Nittany Lions outclassed the Bruins 27-11 in Beaver Stadium to improve to 5-0.
Penn State's defense kept UCLA to a mere field goal until a meaningless touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game. The PSU win was never really in doubt as they grinded down their opponents from the west coast for the full 60 minutes.
Junior Quarterback Drew Allar may need to be spectacular over the next three games that include USC, Wisconsin and Ohio State, but for this contest, he was steady and continued a winning formula of minimizing mistakes. Allar completed 17 of 24 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown. He had no interceptions or fumbles.
With his backfield mate Nick Singleton unavailable, Kaytron Allen carried the load for the running game. Allen carried 21 times for 78 yards and a score.
"Getting our guys lined up, getting their cleats in the ground, getting them ready to play, I think we've done a nice job of that with both offensive and defensive staff," said Penn State Head Coach James Franklin.
"D-line helps us out, we help the D-line out. If they're starting slow, we can probably pick them up, if we're starting slow they can help pick us up and vice versa for the offense as well," said Penn State Senior Defensive Back Jalen Kimber. "We just try to play complimentary football and just do your job."
Penn State plays USC in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum next Saturday, October 12th at 3:30pm eastern time.
