LOS ANGELES, California — In their first west coast trip since the restructured Big Ten, the Penn State Nittany Lions beat the new conference rival USC Trojans 33-30 in overtime. After the thrilling victory at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Penn State was ready to enjoy a fun plane ride back to Happy Valley ahead of a bye week that will allow them to savor the win for a little bit longer.
Ryan Barker delivers in the clutch, booting his 4th field goal of the game on the Nittany Lions first possession in overtime from 36 yards out.
"I remember them icing. I found the point where I wanted to aim the kick and from there I just felt good in my head that I was going to make the kick," said Penn State redshirt freshman kicker Ryan Barker. "When I saw it go through, it really wasn't a surprise."
"You know they tried to ice him but it's just credit to his confidence and his demeanor," said Penn State junior quarterback Drew Allar. "I'm super happy for him that he was able to enjoy that moment and deliver us the win."
PSU trailed 20-6 at halftime but came out strong after the break and quickly tied it at 20. A late fourth quarter drive engineered by Junior Quarterback Drew Allar resulted in a 14-yard touchdown pass to Nick Singleton to tie the game and force the extra session.
Barkley connected on field goals of 34, 33, 20 and from 36 yards to end a thrilling back and forth Big Ten regular season game. The Nittany Lions remain undefeated at 6-0 and beat the Trojans in the Coliseum for the first time in program history.
After their bye week, Penn State travels to Wisconsin to face the Badgers in Camp Randall Stadium.
