COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A postgame handshake saw tempers flare between Penn State Head Coach James Franklin and Maryland Head Coach Mike Locksley after Penn State's dominating 44-7 victory.
Penn State scored a touchdown on the very last play of the game. Afterward, FOX43's Todd Sadowski caught the contentious postgame handshake at midfield.
Locksley called the late touchdown "B-S" and voiced his displeasure with Franklin.
In the video, Franklin can be heard saying, "If that's what you think that's fine."
During the post-game press conference, Franklin was asked about the exchange
"My job is to put the threes and fours in the game. But when the threes and fours get to go in the game, they get to play football," Franklin said. "Those guys deserve to play football. Your ones are in the game. You're trying to score, we're trying to score."
"And on top of that, there's also a change in college football," Franklin continued. "We are trying to play as long as we can make the playoffs and be seated as high as possible. Scoring as many points and a point differential matters. All that matters and if you don't get that, it's really not my problem."
Maryland finished their disappointing season at 4-8.
Christmas arrived a little early for Penn State courtesy of Michegan's upset over Ohio State in Columbus. Following the win over Maryland, Penn State will play for the Big Ten title against Oregan next week in Indianapolis.
