YORK, Pa. — York Suburban athletic director Ron Coursey is no stranger to big time sporting events.
For the second season in a row, he and his school are hosting the York Rose Bowl Kickoff classic to start the high school football season. The event will feature some of the best talent and teams in Pennsylvnaia.
"We’re really excited about raising the bar of the event. We have much better matchups ,and much better fan fare around the event," said Coursey. "Not everybody is familiar with it, so we just hope to expand upon it and make it a bigger and better event."
This year's edition will feature six games and two locations with Smalls Field, home of the York Bearcats, hosting Saturday's slate of games. Coursey was even able to bring in Clarkson North, a team from Canada, while continuing to welcome some of the best team's along the eastern region.
"We want to compare our brand of football against other regions. You get to see football from Pittsburgh, Canada and Baltimore, Maryland," explained Coursey. "The goal is to compare our style and contrast it against other high school programs throughout the region."
There will be three games on Friday and Saturday starting at 5 p.m. on Friday. While this year's event is the biggest thus far, Coursey is already thinking about how to make it even bigger.
"Our hope is one day we can grow where we can get teams from Florida, Georgia, and California, where we know the football is even a step above, and see how we stack up here in Pennsylvania."
