Penn State Coach James Franklin speaks on firing offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich

Franklin will look for his sixth different OC since 2014, after the firing of former Shippensburg OC Yurcich following two seasons with the team.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Following Saturday's loss to number 3 ranked Michigan, Penn State moved on from offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich.

On Monday, head coach James Franklin thanked Yurcich for his contributions to the Nittany Lions.

"I appreciate the contributions that Coach Yurcich made here," said Franklin. "Obviously we made a tough decision that we feel was in the best interest of the program moving forward."

Franklin then explained that it was his decision to move on. Running Back coach Ja'Juan Seider and tight end coach Ty Howle will share play-calling duties. Franklin also said he will be more prevalent in the meetings with the quarterbacks.

"Danny is involved with the QBs and I'm going to make sure that I'm involved with every single meeting with them," said Franklin. "We also want to get another voice on the headset as well but as far as the QBs it will be Danny and myself."

The Nittany Lions offense under Yurcich currently ranked 72nd in total offense. Starting quarterback Drew Allar only passed for 70 yards on Saturday's game.

Running backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton are also down to just 4.9 and 3.8 YPC this season. Last season, as freshmen, they averaged 6.8 and 5.2 yards per carry, respectively.

The Nittany Lions will be home against Rutgers this weekend. Kickoff is set for noon.
