PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley's first game with his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles, could not have gone much better.
The Lehigh Valley native and former Penn State star debuted with the Birds in Brazil, racking up 132 total yards and scoring three touchdowns in a 34-29 victory.
For his effort, Barkley was voted the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Joe Mixon, who rushed for 159 yards and a touchdown in his first game with the Houston Texans, earned the weekly award for the AFC.
Barkley, who left the New York Giants to join Philadelphia as a free agent in the offseason, scored the Birds' first touchdown of the season when he hauled in an 18-yard TD strike from Jalen Hurts on the Eagles' third possession. He also did plenty of damage on the ground, rushing for 109 yards and a pair of scores on 24 carries.
Barkley became the first player to score touchdowns on three continents. He found the end zone in a Giants game in Europe, and has plenty of touchdowns in North America.
The Eagles and Packers became the first NFL teams to play in South America in last Friday's opener in Sao Paulo.
