WASHINGTON — Another piece has been added to the coaching staff puzzle for the Washington Commanders in the form of assistant defensive line coach Sharrif Floyd.
Floyd, a former first-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2013, played four seasons in the NFL and last played in 2016. He began his coaching career nearly one year ago after being hired by the Dallas Cowboys. He follows Dan Quinn to the Commanders where he will assume the same role he held with the Cowboys.
Floyd was a standout at Florida where he played his college ball, amassing 19.5 career tackles for loss, with 13 of them coming in 2012. That mark is tied for 5th all-time in the Southeastern Conference for a single season.
He also joins a coaching staff with three other pilfered NFC East coaches, Defensive Coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., Offensive Line Coach Bobby Johnson, and Offensive Assistant Brian Johnson, and is the second staff member to follow Dan Quinn from Dallas.
In 2023. the Commanders defense was ranked 32nd in yards and points allowed, and finished 26th out of 32 in sacks.
It's also worth noting that the defensive line coach has not been hired as of yet, but the hiring of Floyd could indicate that a move is coming sooner rather than later.
