West York freshman Tayvon Thomas adds to legendary family name

The Thomas name holds immense weight at West York High School.

WEST YORK, Pa. — The Thomas name is one that holds immense weight at West York High School. From superstar gymnast Trinity to her sister Tesia each have created their own legacy at the school. Now, their little brother, and the youngest of five, Tayvon, is on the path to doing the same for the Bulldogs football team.

"It’s hard sometimes because everyone tries to compare me to some of the people in my family," said Tayvon. "I just try to live up to my name and hopefully give my best effort no matter where I am."

The freshman two-way player is only getting his journey started at West York. Starting on varsity is a good first step, and the goals are lofty for the young star.

"I want to go to a big college. I want to make sure everything I'm doing is the right standard," said Thomas. "I want to keep good grades and try to keep my best work on the field."

It helps when he can lean on his four older sisters and star athletes in their own right. Not to mention his father and former Penn State football wide receiver Tisen Thomas as well. It's a unique situation for Tayvon and one his head coach Ron Miller appreciates.

"There are so many other things besides being an athlete that make him special," said Miller. "I'm just privileged and blessed to have a young man like that on my team, there are many different avenues for him to carve out his niche he just needs to be Tayvon Thomas."
