LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — The U.S. Women's is on the verge of competition rounds starting, but the work has already begun for volunteers.

Over 2,000 have been on the course helping out fans and players with everything from fan services to driving ranges to even general directions and everything in between.

"We couldn’t do it without the volunteers," said volunteer co-chair Carol Lefever "We just couldn’t put on a tournament of the volunteers and there is every kind of role."

While many of the volunteers are local and members of the club, others have come from as far as the West Coast.

"We have some that literally travel around the county and volunteer at golf tournaments," said Margot Hoerner, co-chair volunteer of hospitality. "We get people from California who wanted to come back to Lancaster County and volunteer for the U.S. Open, so people have really become lovers of women's professional golf."

Some volunteers started their shifts as early as 6 a.m., while others have asked for extra shifts. The power of the U.S. Women's Open has many wanting to be a part of the historic tournament.

"They are asking for more shifts because they just love the atmosphere," said Lefever. "They want to be here and after most of them hang out and enjoy the golf."

The competition rounds at the Open begin Thursday, May 30, and conclude Sunday, June 2.
