Young golfers stay sharp in the offseason with simulated golf courses

The York Indoor Golf and Training Center holds the Elite Jr. practice program for young golfers to improve using simulation bays

YORK, Pa. — Many golfers around the area are taking advantage of the off-season.

The York Indoor Golf and Training Center is providing simulations for players to work on their swings and stay sharp in the off-season.

"What we try and do down here is have the ability to work on different parts of your game," said golf pro Jeff DeCoen. "You can work on chipping [or] putting. We go through the fundamentals with these young people down here and just work on certain aspects of the game.”

The simulators aren't just your average driving range either; the option to play full PGA courses is available as well. During the winter months, the chances to play outside are minimal but the simulators are exact replicas of real-life golfing.

“Through the winter it gets cold and it’s hard to go out there and play," said 14-year-old Patrick Knaub, amateur golfer. "If you are outside you can’t swing right in a big heavy coat, but [this experience] is really cool and it helps a lot.”

Additionally, practice program leagues will be held as well. With all the different types of swings and shots work on the mental repetition is important.

"It really feels like the real thing," said Knaub. "I'm just thankful to have Jeff help me with everything and being able to play all the courses that are available is really cool."
