ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — There's some brotherly love on the football field for the Bermudian Springs Eagles this year.
Among the handful of family connections they have on the squad, the Hubbard brothers are at the core of the successful season for the Eagles. They have helped lead the program to their first shot at a district championship in more than 25 years against the Trinity Shamrocks on Friday.
Dylan, a senior wide receiver, and Lane, a junior quarterback, make up the Hubbard the WR-QB tandem for Bermudian Springs. Along with their younger brother Josh, a freshman wide receiver, they know this is a special opportunity to suit up with family.
"I think it's really special that I have this opportunity to be able to come out here and play with my family, and I think it's been showing these past couple weeks that we're out here to play," said Dylan.
"It's been a lifelong dream to be able to play with them," said Josh. "It's nice to come together as a family and work together."
A dream that the entire Hubbard family gets to witness on Friday nights.
"My parents have always talked about it. My grandparents have always been looking out for this," said Lane. "We've [all] always been looking forward to it."
It’s a family connection that brings the best out of all of them and is a big factor behind the chance they have to win the school’s first District Championship since 1998.
"The best part of it is not necessarily the scoring or the big play. It's just the fact that they are doing everything they can to make each other look good, and if they're on the same page, it's really hard to stop," said Bermudian Springs Head Coach John Livelsberger. "[They] have all that time they've spent together and and they're they're doing it for each other, not just for their own individual athletes which as a coach, is what we love to see."
Whatever this week’s result may bring, it’s an Eagles family culture reflected through the Hubbard's that has the program on the right trajectory.
"It's got to be everybody doing their job and having that brotherhood, not just the real brothers, but also the brotherhood amongst the team," said Livelsberger. "It has been really helpful for the squad this year."
A culture that even as the Hubbards pass through, will have Bermudian Springs well set for more shots at hardware in the future.
"We're all family and we're just pushing the younger ones because that's the next generation," said Dylan. "The senior group has left them off with some big shoes, but I think they got some big feet. I think Bermudian is going to be scary for the next couple of years."
