SALUNGA-LANDISVILLE, Pa. — The wrestling scene in Pennsylvania needs no introduction. With girls' wrestling being sanctioned, it was already a historic moment for the state and for the Mack family at Hempfield High School.
Siblings Seamus and Hattie Mack both made history, each claiming a Lanc-Leb title in their weight class.
"I've definitely come a long way and it was really cool we could do that," said Hattie Mack. "It was awesome to see."
Seamus is no stranger to dominance in the LL himself. The Mack family has a strong background with their father, Shane, as a dad and the boys' head coach.
"It was cool that she was able to win it and it's cool for my family," said Seamus Mack. "For us, to be the first ones to do that it's not very often you get to be the first in wrestling, the sport has been around for a long time."
Now their focus shifts to the state tournament at GIANT Center. A familiar place for Seamus and the first time for Hattie. Both are using each other's success as motivation to move forward.
"There are not a lot of changes at this point, you are who you are," said Shane Mack. "I think both are super competitive and it's cool they made history. I just want to see them fight until the very end."
Win or lost, the Mack name has already been cemented in the Black Knight's history with the chance to further it during the PIAA state wrestling tournament.
