The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers beat the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars in the PIAA 4A semi-finals 20-16 on Friday afternoon in comeback fashion to book their ticket into the state finals next week. They now have back-to-back comeback state playoff victories en route to next week's final.
The game could not have started better for the Pioneers defense who came out the gate hot with an interception by senior defensive back Christian Nolt on the very first Jaguars' offensive drive. The turnover turned into the first three points of the game but in a first half that would become one to forget the Pioneers allowed a blocked punt safety and two touchdowns, including one scored 25 seconds before halftime, making it 16-3 at the break.
However, the second half was all about resilience. The Pioneers defense made a handful of big stops early giving a chance for the offense to get back in it with two timely touchdowns. Two big scores behind the efforts of quarterback and team captain Caileb Howse, one 40+ yard touchdown run and a 40+ yard dime dropped into the hands of Nolt.
Along with a field goal, the Pioneer defense shut out the Jaguars the rest of the way, to seal the victory and keep their state title hopes alive.
