Giant Center welcomes back the Hershey Bears for their home opener on Saturday

The Giant Center will be rocking at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

HERSHEY, Pa. — The Hershey Bears are hitting the ice at the Giant Center on Saturday for their home opener.

The 2023 AHL champs will face the Belleville Senators to start their season and attempt to reclaim the Calder Cup for 2024.

The coaching staff says they have several promising young players either returning or gearing up for their first season.

“We want to build something special," said Todd Nelson, head coach. "The new guys we brought in we feel fill our needs as a hockey team."

Aaron Ness, a returning defenseman, agrees. He says he enjoys riding the energy after winning the AHL championship last season. But now, it's time to turn the page.

"It’s a new year and new team," said Ness. "We're excited for the challenge and to get going [on Saturday]."

And that night will feature the raising of the 2023 AHL Championship Banner and a ring ceremony.

The team will wear warmup jerseys this weekend that will be auctioned off to support Hershey Bears Cares initiatives.

The Hershey Bears face the Belleville Senators at 7 p.m. at the Giant Center on Saturday.
