HERSHEY, Pa. — The Hershey Bears head to Cleveland next week with a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals over the Monsters, after a 3-2 win Saturday night.
The Bears didn't take the easy route to the win once again in this series.
Garrett Roe opened the scoring on a second period power play to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
With nearly a minute left in the second, Hershey netminder Hunter Shepard came out to the top of the circles to play the puck as Cleveland had a breakaway. The puck jumped around with Shepard out of position. Cleveland's Josh Dunne found the puck and put it home to tie the game.
Ethen Frank put the Bears back in front about halfway through the third period.
Then at at 16:24 of the third period, it was deja vu for the Bears. Defenseman Jake Massie put the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty. Hershey killed off the penalty, but Cleveland kept pressing with goaltender Jet Greaves on the bench.
Then, the Monsters cashed in. David Jiricek put the puck in the net at 18:27 to tie the game at 2 and sent it to overtime.
At 13:54, Pierrick Dube made a great defensive play in his own zone. He then went coast-to-coast and took a nice pass from Jimmy Huntington. Dube buried it for the game winner.
Dube, Frank, and Jiricek were the three stars of the game.
