HERSHEY, Pa. — The Hershey Bears will be headed to the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The team became the first in the American Hockey League (AHL) to clinch a playoff berth, earning its spot via the Providence Bruins' victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Bears will play in the postseason for the 71st time in franchise history.
Of course, the Bears are the defending Calder Cup Champions, after winning a league-record 12th title last June.
So far this season, Hershey has enjoyed a dominant season, owning a league-best 42-11-0-4 record, good for 88 points, a mark 10 points better than any other club in AHL. The Bears are allowing a league-low 2.12 goals per game and are led by goaltenders Clay Stevenson (1.90) and Hunter Shepard (2.00) who hold the top two spots in goals-against average in the AHL.
The Bears still have 15 regular season contests left before the season ends on April 20.
