BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Tyler Smeyers did not get to see a Bears victory in Bridgeport on Monday afternoon. Hershey lost a shootout overtime game to the Islanders 2-1.

But, the result didn't matter to Smeyers. He traveled from New Jersey to see his favorite team play in person for the first time this season.

"I became a Bears fan because, when I was five years old, my parents took me to Hersheypark Arena," Smeyers recalled. "I knew it had a certain mystique about it, I just enjoyed the experience. I knew the Hershey community was special and the Bears have been part of my life ever since."

He wasn't the only one eager to see the team in Connecticut. Hockey fans young and old were up against the glass during the warm-up for an up close and personal view.

"I've been looking forward to this game for a couple of months," Tyler smiled.

The Bears' next game is back on the road in Connecticut. They are at Hartford on Friday night, Jan. 19.
