HARRISBURG, Pa. — Bishop McDevitt senior Quarterback Stone Saunders is on the brink of Pennsylvania history. The Kentucky Commit is just one touchdown pass away from breaking the all time record set by District III and former Steel-High star Alex Erby a year ago.
The journey for Saunders started as a freshman and has only grown from there.
"This week I was going back and watching some clips and I look back on my first passing touchdown and to see the difference and to think of where I was back then and where I am now," said Saunders "It’s going to be a fun moment to celebrate with my family."
Saunders is the unquestioned leader of the Crusaders team. With 6 touchdown passes last week he's capable of filling it up quickly. Head Coach Jeff Weachter says Saunders is one the best to come through the school.
"He's like a second son to me and to see him reach the level that he has I'm just so happy for him," said Saunders "He has a lot of talent but I don’t think people understand how hard he works and the mental part of the game just helps him so much."
The plan for Fridays game is to honor Saunders whenever the moment he makes history happens. No matter the way it may come about.
"It’s actually funny I drew up a trick play earlier this week but we messed it up," said Saunders "So coach hasn’t given me a second thought on it so we’re just going to play ball on Friday."
The Crusaders take on Altoona at home on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7pm.
