HARRISBURG, Pa. — Harrisburg's Antonio Perez continues to make a name for himself in the WBC boxing ranks.
His latest fight came on the undercard for Adrien Broner; he not only defended his title but also added another one to his collection. Through it all his hometown of Harrisburg has been a huge reason he fights.
"Not a lot of people make it out of Harrisburg," said Perez. "I want to be one of the very few and lead by example to the youth."
Perez's record now stands at 10-0 in the pro ranks. A sign that his hard work is paying off since he started boxing at a young age and instantly fell in love.
Since then, he's been out to prove that Harrisburg can produce elite talent.
"We don't really have much in Harrisburg, especially in boxing," said Perez. "There is so much more I want to do and I know I'm going to do."
The Capital Punishment Gym product is currently ranked 11th in the WBC. A number that he and his team aren't yet satisfied with, but are calculated in their approach.
"It was really big for us and for Harrisburg when we went down to Florida," said trainer Jose Martinez. "He acted like he was at home he went in that ring and really took ownership."
Perez's next fight has yet to be scheduled, but he is planning for it to be sometime in December.
