HERSHEY, Pa. — Blood Cancer patients at Hershey Medical Center got a very special treat this holiday season.
Members of the Hershey Bears stopped by to support them and spread love this holiday season as they fight their cancer battles.
“My nurse wrote a message on my board that said at 1 o'clock we are taking a walk for a surprise," said patient Rick Updegrove. "And meeting the players was the surprise."
The players held up light the night balloons in support of the numerous patients. They also spent time getting to know them and thanking them for their support.
The players act as a small distraction from the battle that the patients are going through.
"Especially during the holiday season people like to get together more," said Bears forward Garrett Roe. "Sometimes people can feel isolated so to be able to lift the spirits or just talk to them, that’s what humanity is about so it’s been special for us."
This is the first time the Bears and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society have partnered together.
The time spent short but meaningful not only this holiday season but for the rest of their lives.
"They don’t have to do this," said Updegrove. "We appreciate them taking their time out of their busy schedule and come over here and see us."
