LANCASTER, Pa. — Mason Martin, first baseman of the Lancaster Stormers, was named the Atlantic League Player of the Month by league officials on Wednesday.
Martin joined Lancaster at the end of June this season, having previously played for the Los Angeles Angels organization. Before that, he spent seven years in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
In the 27 games he has played with Lancaster this month, the 25-year-old had 15 home runs, 44 RBIs and a batting average of .378.
“It’s an honor receiving Player of the Month in a league full of so many good ballplayers," Martin said in a press release. “It’s been a fun experience since I got here, and I hope to finish the season on a strong note.”
There have been three games this month in which Martin hit multiple home runs and had four or more RBIs in a game five times. He also became the first player in Stormers history to hit four grand slams in one season, hitting three this month.
Martin has an overall batting average of .328 while playing for Lancaster this season. In his 56 games on the team, he has hit 24 home runs and batted in 67 runs.
