PALMYRA, Pa. — The accomplishments of Palmyra seniors Aidan and Tyler Mahaffey have reached elite status on the tennis court. Most recently the duo made PIAA District III history - four years and four district titles.
"We're pretty focused. We have up to four more matches left, that’s all that’s left," said Aidan Mahaffey. "We are doing all we can to be prepared and do our best there."
There is just one last thing to accomplish as a high school duo and that is to win the state championship for the third time in a row. The pair are hoping that their success in high school will follow them into college, where they will remain a team at Lafayette College.
"We definitely had our own college processes. We talked to some different schools without one another," said Tyler Mahaffey. "I think the important thing for us, and what our parents said, was to make the best decision for [ourselves] and it aligned together so that’s perfect."
Both twins have had a milestone season, with each capturing their 150th win. Their latest, and final, run hopes to end in one more state title banner, but both players remain eager for the next chapter.
"We have an understanding of each other, and that takes a while to develop," said Aidan. "Sometimes you play with others, [and] it can be frustrating to not have that. We work pretty well together."
Their state title defense will begin on Friday, May 24th. The twins currently have an undefeated doubles record at 20-0.
