MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — The phrase brotherly love doesn't just apply to the City of Philadelphia.
For Caiden and Brody Pines, it's their first and only season together on the Cumberland Valley football team and the two couldn't wait to play together again.
"This is actually our first year playing together because I am two years older than him," said Caiden. "So it’s a cool experience we get to share some great moments and memories out on the field.
Brody echoed his older brother's sentiment, "We never played with each other in our lives. So playing together is like the coolest thing ever."
The two both star as wide receivers for the Eagles. It's a unique circumstance, but one neither is taking for granted.
Head Coach Josh Oswalt has seen both compete and push each other daily and the growth is good for both as players and the team.
"There is great interaction on the field and off the field," said Oswalt. "To watch Brody grow into his role on both sides of the ball has made us all proud but really made Caiden most proud to know that his little brother is following after him and contributing as much as he is early in his career."
Of course, the two have their fun on the field as well. Pushing each other to improve and when it's game time trying to make the big play.
Brody's biggest moment this season came in the team's first win over CD East with the game-tying touchdown and it's one Caiden couldn't be happier about.
"That was probably one of the coolest moments ever for me," said Caiden. "Seeing my brother being the little bro all my life and now seeing him do big things in big moments. To see him shine in that moment meant a lot to me."
The two will finish out the season with Caiden moving on to college after the year is over, but the lessons he's taught Brody and the role model he's been is all he could ask for.
"He's one of the only guys that can get [me] going," said Brody. "Him being a mentor to me and me just learning from him is something I'm going to carry for the rest of my career."
