Central Pennsylvania umpires get call to officiate Little League World Series

Jared Grissinger and Zachary Gump are two of the 16 umpires who get to officiate some of the best youth baseball teams in the world in Williamsport this week.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — The Little League World Series in Williamsport will feature some Central Pennsylvania roots.

Umpires Jared Grissinger and Zachary Gump will be two of the 16 referees who get to oversee the annual youth baseball tournament.

"Jared and I will be the fifth and sixth umpires to come from this area," said Gump. "So that’s a huge honor to join the four people that came before us."

The two have many years of experience combined, but this call was one that both had been holding out for a very long time to get.

"It's a chance for us to be out there with kids who love the game and are enjoying themselves," said Grissinger. "We get to be apart of that."

The two have worked many tournaments together. Their orientation earlier gave them the lay of the land, and now it's all business but also taking in the sights and sounds that is the Little League World Series.

"We have umpired--Zach and I--a lot of games," said Grissinger. "We're just going to treat it like any other baseball game and do the best that we can."

The Little League World Series will conclude on Aug. 25.
