WOODWARD, Pa. — Woodward PA, boosting 400,000 square feet of action sports parks, has become a training ground to Olympic athletes, but at its core, it’s a summer camp that packs 48 acres with nonstop fun for the whole family.
"We have skateboard, BMX, scooter, parkour, multisport, all kinds of activities for these kids," said Lisa Pham, the general manager of Woodward.
FOX43 Morning News at Nine anchor Sean Streicher took a trip out to the camp to try out all the fun for himself.
Instructor Emily helped him brush up on his skateboarding skills with lessons on how to ollie and drop in. A crash landing or two later, Sean learned what the camp's giant foam pit is for—trying new tricks with no broken bones.
In addition to action sports, campers also get to do more traditional camp activities like swimming, dodgeball, arts and crafts (painting a skateboard) and campfires.
"It’s a residential youth camp," explained Pham, "but we also have adult camp on the weekends, September through May season; we also have a family camp."
Woodward is a camp for people of all ability levels, from beginners like Sean to Olympic hopefuls.
"It’s just one of a kind, there’s not any other places out there in the world that have 11 skate parks, we have a lake, ropes course, go-carts," said Pham. "We have a rock climbing wall, we have a pool, all kinds of great activities (you can) be away from the city life and be out here in the rolling green hills of central Pennsylvania."
